No single drug will be enough to treat all the victims of a global pandemic of the H5N1 bird flu, research suggests.

Planning is an important part of podcasting. It can add a tremendous value to the podcast. Talking randomly without any particular goal is like targeting your ads to mass market, which is not very effective nowadays, especially if you don’t have the budget like Coca Cola.

Establishing a path by planning upfront allows you to achieve your goal easier. The audience usually can relate better and know what to expect out of the podcast.

What do you need to do to design a successful podcast? Here are step by step on how to do it right from the start.

1. Identify the podcast’s goal

Start with an end in mind. After knowing where you want to go, plan backwards until you get the next action you can take right now to move it closer to the goal.

This may sound common sense but the fact shows just the opposite. You can’t just speak about your life and hope to get sponsorship from a car company, unless perhaps, you are sitting inside the brand of the car every time you podcast.

Most companies are going to get more savvy about podcasts. They are not going to spend much on a podcast without knowing its audience. They’d better spend with known demographics.

2. Know your audience

Who is your audience? Who are going to listen to the podcast? Are there any separate groups of people who will listen to the podcast?

Knowing your target audience allows you to speak directly to them and address their problems instead of talking to your interest. If you know the demographics so well you know they are hooked to the Internet via dial-up connections, you should begin finding the balance between the right quality and file size to cater to the slow download problem.

Perhaps now is also a good time to start an idea journal to keep notes when something interesting appears that relate to the target audience well.

3. Brainstorm the needs specifically

What do you need to get to the goal? Do you need to sell ad space on the podcast site? What content do you plan to publish for at least the next three episodes?

Are you going to interview an expert? Do you have the equipment or software to record the conversation? Maybe you should start researching on software and what kind of deals you can get to save money.

As the result of the brainstorm, you will get clear ideas about what the needs are and then plan to acquire them if necessary.

Podcasting can be fun, but only if you plan ahead and avoid the stressful condition during deadlines because lack of preparation. Being able to establish a schedule and deliver it is very important to keep the momentum.

Secret files on UFO sightings in Britain are made available for the first time by the Ministry of Defence.

Spanish speakers will be delighted to discover that the audio Bible is available in a Spanish language version. An audio Bible is essentially a recording of the spoken Word of God. You can find audio Bibles available on CDs and also in mp3 formats, so that they are easily portable and playable wherever you go. You will find the audio Bible available in many versions, including the King James, the New International Version, the Catholic audio Bible, the Contemporary English version, the New International Readers Version for Children, the New Revised Standard, the New King James version, the Good News versions both in Anglicized and Australian versions, and the Anglicized New International version.

The entire New Testament is available in one small audio Bible on CD compact disc that you can play on your home or car stereo system, or on your home computer. If transportability is what you need in order to fit audio Bible study into your busy schedule, you can get the Spanish New Testament downloaded onto a tiny mp3 player, so that you can take it with you on walks and workouts, in order to study at your convenience.

The areas of the world where you will find many Spanish-speaking cultures include North, Central and South America, along with the country of Spain. Mexico constitutes the country with the largest number of Spanish speakers, numbering at just under 109 million. Many from around the world have been lucky enough to visit Mexico, which boasts a very large tourism industry. People come to Mexico to visit the ancient native indigenous cultural ruins and the beautiful beach resorts. Three-quarters of the total Mexican population lives in cities, with only one-quarter of the population residing in rural areas.

Church and state are kept quite separate in Mexico. The state does not offer funding to churches, and churches do not play a part in public education in this country. A vast number of people in Mexico subscribe to the Roman Catholic faith. Because of the church and state separation, priests are not allowed to be elected to public office.

Along with the Spanish audio Bible it is easy to find many peices of heritage to enjoy from Mexico. One aspect of culture that you will find supported by taxes in Mexico are state ministries of culture and education. These branches of government promote the state sponsorship of orchestras that provide music for citizens of various cities. Fine artists that have hailed from Mexico include Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, who were more recently brought to worldwide attention with the release of the movie entitled “Frida.”

Mexico has been greatly influenced by Spain’s colonization of Mexico, which lasted for 300 years. Not only has this impacted religion, but this alos had an impact on the cuisine that developed in the region. Early Spanish conquerers added to the foods they were already familiar with to include foods native to Mexico such as chocolate, maize, tomato, avocado, peanut, turkey, sweet potato, beans, vanilla, papaya, pineapple, beans, and chile peppers.

Susan Slobac has traveled to Mexico and visited many churches while there. She always brings the audio Bible on CD on her travels. She has a translated version of the Spanish audio Bible to listen to. She has been able to share the Catholic audio Bible with many listeners, and has even held an audio Bible study in a remote area in Mexico.

No man on the Moon, the Cold War easing off and the colonists will leave Africa - what the experts predicted would happen in the 1960s.

It was only few years ago that I purchased my first audio info-product. It was written and produced by a well-known internet marketer … an expert in his field … and if I said his name, chances are you would likely know exactly who I’m talking about.

I was really excited to get my new package … and of course couldn’t WAIT to hear it. After all, I was an audio learner, and was chompin’ at the bit to finish the download and start the audio.

But as I clicked the play button I was SHOCKED! It sounded like a bubbling fish tank!

So being the audio expert that I am, I did a little up-sampling, boosting, and noise reduction to make it tolerable and then burned a CD for my car stereo.

But even after all that work … I STILL had to STRAIN to hear the speaker … because it was a measly 16-bit file!

He was Serious???

I paid $97 for that NONSENSE?

So the guy paid about 10 cents in bandwidth … and didn’t my $97 justify a quality-sounding audio?

Am I completely out to lunch?

I come from an era where I pay 15 to 25 bucks for a high quality CD. Or I go to a bookstore and purchase a professionally edited book.

Why is it that literally EVERY TIME I bought an audio e-book it was more of the same bubbling fish tank?

In frustration of the poor audio, I bought a $297 CD series last fall. No downloading … these were actual CD’s in a pretty box. I really hoped that this time my ears would not be let down.

It was a recording of a well known marketer (let’s call him Mr. X), and he was interviewing another expert. We’ll call him Mr. Y.

Oh those CD’s looked beautiful. Bright colors. Cool graphics. And I almost drooled as I put the CD in my car stereo.

But I heard NOTHING.

I popped the CD out … and then back in … still nothing.

I then cranked the volume … and there it was! Mr. X was interviewing Mr. Y faintly in the background. Through a series of four CD’s. I strained to listen. And once again I was frustrated.

WHY do so many internet audio products sound terrible?

This is stupid … and it just plain sucks. But creating quality audio isn’t hard when you know the RIGHT way to do it. And it doesn’t have to cost an arm OR a leg to get the right gear!

Fast forward to today … if you’re producing audio e-books, they really DON’T have to sound like this. Good software is inexpensive … and so is the hardware.

The processes, techniques, and ways to avoid the blunders are now all revealed to YOU.

QUICK TIP for audio producers … when recording an audio interview never use an internet recording service. You’ll ALWAYS get a superior quality recording if you record the audio right at the source.

Making its public debut in September of 1968, the Jaguar XJ6 both stunned and amazed people. This was a different and unique kind of vehicle that the Ford Motor Company introduced and marketed under the Jaguar brand.

At first, this vehicle was a difficult one to catch. This was due to the manufacturer???s difficulty in keeping up with the demand for this vehicle. Even those people who are trying to ask for test drives for various different purposes had to go through a hard times and had encountered problems as with regards to this. The first series of the Jaguar XJ6 held either a 4,235 cc I6 DOHC engine or a 2,792 cc I6 DOHC engine. Given as an option was a four speed manual and a Borg Warner 3 speed automatic.

As per the latest model of the Jaguar XJ6, it has been made available in only one trim level. This trim level was the short wheel base or also known as the SWB. This vehicle also sported heated memory front seats, a sunroof, a heated windscreen, a single CD player, and a CD stacker. The sound system for the Jaguar XJ6 had eight speakers made standard. An auto-changer for six CD discs was given as an option. Also, the vehicle, which is found at the top of its range and vehicle group, boasts electro-chromatic door mirrors that has the ability to fold back, power wash headlights, and xenon bulbs. Additional features are 19 inch alloy wheels, memory pack seats and rear seats that are variably heated. Listening to music and sounds have been spruced up with the Jaguar Alpine sound system, subwoofers, and a dozen speakers. Also added in for extra entertainment and feel are voice control of audio controls, climate controls, telephone systems, navigation system, and the television.

The interior of the Jaguar XJ6 could be considered stunning and amazing. This vehicle sports an analog clock and as a whole, the cabin provides an easy comfort and relaxing ride for its passengers. The interior could be used fitted in with leather in the color of ivory, dark metallic blue or metallic red. The combination of colors exudes beauty and elegance as well as sophistication.

Other facets of the Jaguar XJ6 include air suspension, an electronic parking brake, vented all round disks, dynamic stability control, traction control, front fog lights, rain sensing windscreen wipers, a heated rear window, parking assistance, a trip computer, electric front and passenger seats, burr walnut veneer, leather interior, front airbags, side airbags, curtain airbags, an electronic brake assist, energy absorbent seats, belt pretensioners for the front and the rear, and an electric driver???s pedal adjustment.

Iron Man maintains its grip on the North American box office chart, taking $50m in its second weekend.

Do you have a website which no one visits?

Why you need Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) for New or Existing Websites.

Did you know that unless a website comes up on the first two pages of search results (SERP = Search Engine Results Page), it will probably never be visited. No one can guarantee that your website will rank on the top of Google and the other leading search engines. It takes a lot of hard work and planning to make sure it does but, with the right on and off-site optimisation, you will see positive results!

Search Engine Optimisation - known as “SEO” in the web industry - requires careful strategic planning of website content and structure. This prioritises search engines to offer your website to users who are searching for your product or services.

Without optimisation it is likely that your website will not rank above all the online “clutter” to your targeted audience.

Research shows that some users search by two ways, using search phrases to find a ’specialist hub’ and using links from that site or secondly by a targeted search, using keywords like; ‘name’, ‘product’, ‘location’ or by ‘person’ to find the official website.

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) techniques should start from the initial concept of the design, right through to the end product including cross media marketing to stand out from the competition on and off-line. For maximum added value retro Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) techniques can also be applied to your existing website for convience.

What is SEO (Search Engine Optimization)?

In a nutshell, SEO is “All of the techniques used to get your site noticed and indexed on all of the major search engines such as Google, Yahoo, MSN”.

Why is SEO so important?

The number one way in which people find websites is through search engines, so achieving a high ranking in your keywords (typically the first page or 1-10 in the engine) is the best way to drive traffic to your site. With a quality ranking, the investment is invaluable, it is much like “free” advertising 24/7/365.

How can you become SEO friendly?

Although the methods of SEO is virtually endless, here are some of the most important factors of getting that top-spot.

Domain age - Search engines love a seasoned site, one that has been around for several years and proves to be beneficial for the users.

Relevant, clean, new content - You need to make sure your site has fresh content and is updated regularly. The search engines like this and so do your visitors.

No Flash - Flash is a great multimedia tool but is typically frowned upon for SEO, the text and content within the Flash piece cannot be seen by search engines, thus it cannot be implemented into your SEO progress. A major downer is having a flash intro, a flash intro page acts as a barrier between the main page and the rest of the content that lies within your site.

Meta tags - Meta tags are invisible tags that are used by search engines to categorize your content.

Heading tags - Heading tags (h1) should be used on the headline or most important and relevant factor of your page heading tags should also be used on the keywords which you think users will be searching for that will lead to your site.

Site maps - Site maps is a link by link breakdown of your site. They help search engine “spiders” navigate through your site and index each individual page.

What not to do for SEO

Keyword Stuffing - Keyword stuffing is jam packing your content with your main keywords to the point that your content no longer makes sense.

Invisible content - Invisible content that is not intended for users to see but used to fill your page with keywords will quickly put you on a search engine’s bad side.

Too many h1 tags

Link farms - Link farms are basically individual pages with numerous links to other sites.

Over doing any of the what not to do can result in your site being “sandboxed” which will exclude your site from the search engine altogether. Being “sandboxed” may last forever, years or months.

How long will a good ranking take?

 to handle the task.

What is Parliament for and how does it work?

Traveling to historical places can jump start your kids’ interest in the past, while allowing an interesting and relaxing vacation for everyone. When we learn history in school, most of us are forced to read chapters in textbooks and memorize dates, which is fairly unstimulating. All those words and numbers start to blur together after awhile. During spring or summer break, pack up the kids and hit the road, to bring excitement and interest back to learning. Here are some great sites to see.

Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia

A historic, working village that shows how early American settlers lived their lives. Get some gingersnaps at their colonial-era bakery. Watch a blacksmith in action, shoeing horses. See sheep grazing the grass, and listen to old-fashioned music. Watch as old-style crafts are made, how yarn is spun on a wheel and listen to the tour guides explain the history of the area. It is fascinating, you feel like you have stepped back in time. People there wear period costumes, and conduct their daily business the way the settlers did, way back when. Visit the visitors’ center for more information and a map of the area.

Washington D.C.

Visit the Smithsonian Institution and see a variety of historical exhibits. See the Wright Brothers’ first airplane on display, and other famous airplanes at the National Air and Space Museum (a division of the Smithsonian.) See the Museum of Natural History too, for exhibits ranging from dinosaurs to rare gems such as the Hope Diamond. The National Gallery of Art houses famous paintings, sculptures and more; from all over the world. Also, see the monuments such as Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Washington Memorial and more. The White House and the Capitol Building are stately and must be visited to make the trip complete. Washington D.C. is a treasure trove of sites for a history-loving family.

Civil War Battlegrounds

To get a feel for what it was like during the Civil War, go to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania or other famous war sites.Other interesting sites are the battlefields at Kennesaw, Georgia or Chickamauga. When at these sites, go to the visitors’ centers and sign up for tours if they are offered. They will walk you around to the key areas of the sites, and tell you what happened during the war, and where. Usually, there are cannons or other Civil War memorabilia displayed. Some have museums as well, to see more war-era artifacts. These sites are an important part of our American history and worth seeing.

The United Kingdom

To see a large amount of historic sites, go to England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales. London, England is just loaded with sites to see such as Buckingham Palace, Parliament, the Tower of London, Big Ben and Westminster Abbey. It is an amazing and elegant city with a wide variety of sites and entertainment in general.

Other areas of England that are highly educational are Stratford-Upon-Avon (where William Shakespeare was born) and the Lake District. In Stratford, visit the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. See a production of Hamlet or other classics. Visit Shakespeare’s birthplace, which is very cramped but gives you a feel for the era in which he lived. In the Lake District, see Grasmere, where William Wordsworth lived and is buried. You can go through his house, in the lovely hills of the lush countryside. Stop for Gingerbread at the very famous Sarah Nelson’s Bakery.

If you want to see castles, there are many sprinkled all over the British Isles. Conwy Castle in Llandudno, Wales is a large fortress-type castle that is now a picturesque ruin, but is a testimony to the amazing designs of medieval architecture. If you want to see intact castles, see others such as Windsor Castle in Windsor. You can walk around and see a real, working and ancient royal residence. It is huge and the gardens are elegant.

The Yucatan Peninsula

To see amazing examples of Mayan and Toltec Indian ruins, the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico is a good place to start. In the state of Quintano Roo, visit the ruins of an ancient city called Chichen Itza. It has a large and well-preserved pyramid called El Castillo, and there are other buildings on the site with clearly readable hieroglyphics. Sometimes, tourists are permitted to go inside the pyramid. Inside, there is a very narrow staircase leading up to a room housing a Jade Jaguar sculpture and a Chac Mool figurine (ancient symbol in their culture.) This site is located deep in the Mexican jungle and is breathtaking, real-life history. If you go, bring water, as the area is steaming hot all year long. There is a hotel nearby for lunch if you need a break.

Other ruins to see are Palenque, Tulum, and Coba. Coba has the largest pyramid on the peninsula, but it is not as preserved as El Castillo. Still, the view from the top is outstanding, and worth climbing the steep, ancient stairs. Tulum is located on the Caribbean coastline, which gives it a atmospheric backdrop. Scenes from the movie, “Against All Odds” were filmed there. It is a beautiful site. Hire a professional tour agent through your hotel, but as at all ruins, make sure not to hire the freelance ones. They tend to make things up. Having lived in the region for two years myself, I learned these things.

There are multitudes of other great sites to visit, but these are ones that I have enjoyed most in my travels. Before embarking on a trip, study up on places that interest you and see which are best for your family. Historical vacations are gifts of memories to your kids, that cannot be taken away or forgotten. And, anywhere you go, the excitement of being in a different culture or era for that moment is an effective cure for everyday suburban boredom. Go ahead, explore and enjoy. Your kids will thank you for it in the end.

Singer Mariah Carey confirms in a US magazine interview that she has tied the knot with actor Nick Cannon.

The theme of Diary of a Worm is set right away with the title and then each event is dated by month and number. This delightful humorous picture book by Doreen Cronin is about a lovable worm who finds out that there are some good things in life and not so good things.

His mom tells him there are three things he should always remember:

1. The earth gives us everything we need.

2. When we dig tunnels, we help take care of the earth.

3. Never bother Daddy when he is eating the newspaper.

And there are three good things about being a worm.

1. I never have to go to the dentist.

2. I never get in trouble for tracking mud through the house.

3. I never have to take a bath.

The illustrations by Harry Bliss are really the highlight of this book and the cartoon images on the inside of the book cover are meant to look like family photos of the little worm. In addition the protagonist tries to teach his spider friend how to dig but the spider gets all his legs stuck in dirt and in turn the spider tries to teach the worm how to walk upside down, only to discover that worms cannot walk upside down. All ages can relate to the humor in this book. Adults and children can share a fun read together.

I observed my seven year old granddaughter as she read Diary of a Worm to me. She carefully studied the pictures on both pages before reading. Although the words were for her grade level, the pictures enhanced her confidence with her reading.

Tony Blair is advising his successor and has told him how to win the next election, Cherie Blair says.

Are you sick and tired of paying hundreds of dollars for writing and design software that does not work?

You may want to give the following open-source programs a try.

1) Open Office, the king and queen of office suits. Available for PC, Mac and Linux platforms. Totally free and comes with a spreadsheet and slide presentation programs well. Has even a built-in PDF creator! You might be surprised with all the goodies that you can download free from The Open Office web site. I’ve been using Open Office for over a year now. I couldn???t recommend it any higher.

2) AbiWord. A lightweight word processor for those who do not need MS Word’s complexity to write simple memos and letters. It runs even on archaic hardware that does not support Open Office or MS Office. Has many features that you would not expect in a free word program.

3) Scribus is an open-source program that brings award-winning professional page layout to Linux/Unix, MacOS X, OS/2 and Windows desktops with a combination of “press-ready” output and new approaches to page layout. If you cannot afford Adobe InDesign or QuarkXpress, give Scribus a try.

4) Firefox in my judgment is the best web browser out there. I use it on all my machines. I love its tabbed browsing pages and it never crashes down. Experts agree that it is more secure than MS Internet Explorer. And it is free as well.

5) Nvu is a complete web authoring and HTML editor for Linux desktop users as well as Microsoft Windows and Macintosh users, similar to rival programs like FrontPage and Dreamweaver. I personally do not use Nvu that much because I love Adobe GoLive’s drag-and-drop CCS “floating boxes” that maxes web page design a breeze. But, if you do not want to pay a cent for your HTML editor, then I’d heartily recommend Nvu. It works fairly well once you get past its interface. It even has a great built-in FTP engine.

6) GIMP is the reason why Photoshop should be afraid, very afraid actually. Once they get the layers functionality as polished and convenient as that of Photoshop, I think it would be hard to stop GIMP. This free and sophisticated raster image editing program will truly surprise you with its many PS-like features. I use it regularly.

7) Inkspace can become a serious competitor for Adobe Illustrator once (again) they improve the layers functionality to the Adobe level. It is a great vector drawing and editing program that use fairly regularly although I find Illustrator easier to use just out of sheer habit. But Inkspace is free as well and its Bezier curves is just as good as that of the Illustrator.

Wink is a Tutorial and Presentation creation software, primarily aimed at creating tutorials on how to use software (like a tutor for MS-Word/Excel etc). Using Wink you can capture screenshots, add explanations boxes, buttons, titles etc and generate a highly effective tutorial for your users.

9) PDF Creator easily creates PDFs from any Windows program. Use it like a printer in Word, StarCalc or any other Windows application.

10) Gaim is an instant messaging application available for free downloading. It works on Windows, Mac and Linux platforms. It is compatible with many IM networks including AIM, ICQ, Yahoo!, MSN, Jabber, IRC, Napster, Gadu-Gadu, Zephyr, and SILC.

———————————————————————–

Ugur Akinci, Ph.D. is a writer with 20 years of experience. He is available for a wide variety of freelance assignments. Visit his web site for more information on his services.
